Sunscreen
Sunscreen (also called sunblock or SPF) is a skincare product that protects your skin from ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
UV exposure can cause sunburn, premature aging, dark spots, and increase skin cancer risk, so sunscreen is one of the most important skincare steps.
𧴠How Sunscreen Works
Sunscreens use filters that absorb, scatter, or block UV rays before they penetrate the skin.
There are two main types:
- Mineral (physical) â zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide
- Sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays
- Gentle and good for sensitive skin
- Chemical â ingredients like avobenzone, octinoxate, homosalate
- Absorb UV rays and turn them into heat
- Usually lighter and easier to blend
đ Both types protect skinâchoice depends on skin type and preference.
âď¸ Key Features of Sunscreen
đ SPF (Sun Protection Factor)
- Indicates UVB protection (sunburn prevention)
- The higher the SPF, the longer youâre protected after application
- SPF 30 blocks ~97% of UVB
- SPF 50 blocks ~98%
- SPF 100 blocks ~99%
No SPF blocks 100% of UV raysâreâapplication is still needed.
